1977 – Founded by Michelle DuBois, first class of thirteen Children’s House students in basement of Boxborough church

1980 – Added Lower Elementary program

1988 – Increased enrollment required move to larger space in building on Taylor Street, Littleton, where Upper Elementary was added

1991 – Moved to present location on Old Pickard Lane, Littleton, renting a portion of building that had been egg production facility for Cobb’s Chickens

1995 – Rented entire Old Pickard Lane building and added Middle School program

1999 – Purchased Old Pickard Lane property

2000 – Phase I of renovation and redesign of building

2001 – Phase II of facilities plan adds two Children’s House classrooms and other interior improvements

2002 – Addition of new Middle School wing

2006 – Adopted Strategic Plan that calls for addition of multi-purpose room/gym and renovations for art, music, and drama studios

2007 – Celebrated thirtieth anniversary of founding of Oak Meadow and one hundredth anniversary of the founding of the first Montessori school

2008 – Awarded AISNE & AMS Accreditations

2009 – Completed construction of new Athletic and Performing Arts Center and renovations of existing facility to include new Fine Arts Studio, community gathering spaces and administrative offices

Welcome

David StettlerI am pleased to introduce you to the wonderful learning community that is Oak Meadow Montessori School. Our school is based on the work of educational pioneer Maria Montessori and is founded on the belief that intelligence is not rare, that curiosity, creativity, and imagination are born in all of us and must be nurtured and inspired. Our classrooms are inquisitive, cooperative, nurturing environments, designed to facilitate learning through all of the senses. Our faculty is made up of talented and highly trained educators who creatively design inspired and inspiring learning experiences for each and every child. Our students discover how to learn and how to understand their own approach to learning.

Our Montessori curriculum builds as a continuum, spiraling upwards, so that the child’s discoveries in Children’s House lead inexorably to the adolescent’s intellectual engagement in Middle School. The sequential logic of learning gradually builds, year after year, to prepare the Oak Meadow student for life-long learning and the continuous quest for knowledge. Because our students develop the ability to construct knowledge, they become self-motivated, life-long learners who are filled with awe and wonder. Our graduates are academically well prepared for the finest secondary schools because we are, from the youngest grades, a college-preparatory school and a life-preparatory school.

In the thirty years since its founding, Oak Meadow Montessori School has grown from one classroom of thirteen students in a rented room in the basement of a church to a vibrant community of 260 students in a spacious, sun-lit building owned by the school and surrounded by three acres of playing fields and playgrounds.    We are accredited by the Association of Independent Schools in New England as well as the American Montessori Society.  In September 2009, we celebrated the opening of our newly constructed athletics and performing arts building and the completion of renovations that included the addition of a new art studio and learning center.  These beautiful new facilities have allowed us to expand our arts, athletics, and learning support programs.

I invite you to take the time to get to know Oak Meadow and to understand the remarkable educational journey that we offer to children from the age of three through eighth grade.
