Children’s House

Children’s House classes at Oak Meadow are multi-age groupings of twenty students, ages three, four and five, whose learning is guided by a certified Montessori teacher and a classroom assistant. Classes are balanced by gender and age. Children entering this program must be three years old by September 1 of the year they begin attending Oak Meadow. Students in our Children’s House benefit from the Montessori practice of a three year cycle of study with the same teacher.

In the Children’s House program, students have many and varied ways to engage deeply and in meaningful ways with developmentally appropriate materials.  During the ages from 3-6, children are in the sensitive period for language, order, movement and refinement of the senses.  The classroom environment is arranged to support the child’s development of independence, concentration, coordination and order.  Students in our Children’s House program love learning because Montessori materials are so engaging. They promote curiosity, awaken the senses, and inspire self-motivation. Montessori materials can be used over and over again, each time presenting greater challenge and deeper understanding. A highlight of our language arts program is Wilson Fundations, a scientifically based, sequential phonetic approach to learning language that is compatible with Montessori educational philosophy.

Our students begin the adventure of acquiring knowledge through the Montessori Curriculum, which includes five areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Culture (science, history, geography, art, music, and Spanish). Students also participate in physical education. The Children’s House program prepares children for readiness into the first year of the Lower Elementary program, our first grade equivalent.

All Children’s House programs are five days per week. School day hours are:
Before Care	8:00 - 8:20 AM
Full Day (4 classrooms)	8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Half Day Morning (1 classroom)	8:30 - 11:30 AM
Half Day Afternoon (1 classroom)	12:30 - 3:30 PM
After Care	3:30 - 6:00 PM
After School Programs	3:30 - 6:00 PM
